CV-19 Quarantine Day Twenty-Four

Okay, the last time I was out in public was March 12th to go shopping at New Seasons with Nolemana. It was there and back, no other place. It feels longer than that. Since then he’s been totally at home, and the only trips out I’ve made have been to the vet with Kalakoa and the Post Office. Oh, and East Wind Computers to pick up a web cam.  But even before that it wasn’t like I was going to lots of places. As of last Monday, we’ve cut that all back and aren’t going anywhere. I am more than grateful for two of our friends who’ve gotten groceries for us. And they’ll do it again. Nolemana has three serious risk factors and I don’t want to bring anything home. So I’m staying home, too.

Talking Story Again

It was another beautiful day in the neighborhood; Nolemana and I walked outside again. I heard Hummingbirds, Nuthatches, Mourning Doves, Robins, and Dark-Eyed Juncos. Like others I’ve talked to, staying home like this I lose track of days. I don’t have a schedule anymore as far as going places goes. I used to go to the gym on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays. And knit group on Saturdays. And The Gathering on Wednesdays. I feel a bit unanchored that way…yet ke Akua keeps me anchored in his love.

Talking Stories

Today Nolemana and I went out to New Seasons to do a massive shopping to last us for awhile. They’re being so good about keeping things sanitized and we felt more comfortable going there than to the bigger stores. Everyone was so nice to each other; there was no pushing, no grabbing for items. Everyone’s attitude seemed to be “we’re all in this together”. I thanked our cashier for being at work for all of us.

CV-19 and Stuffs

I have no excuse now for not writing more. Because of CV-19, we’re not going anywhere much. Not that I want to. I’m not going to the gym…even though it’s easy to stay 6′ away from people, I have been extremely dissatisfied with their feeble attempts to keep things cleaned. There is only one young woman there who is absolutely diligent about keeping things wiped down with sanitizing cloths. A Heartwarming Beginning to the New Year

Nolemana and I were on our way to the gym yesterday, and stopped at a red light at Burnside/Division  (four lanes plus turning lanes each street) heading northwest. Traffic was very heavy. I was about 3 cars back from the front of the line. A disabled man in a wheelchair was trying to cross Burnside from the left. He was very slowly going backwards in his chair because of the uphill grade of the road, pushing with his feet. He wouldn’t have enough time to get to the other side of the street before the light changed and could only move very, very, slowly. I’m sure he must’ve felt embarrassed because he was going to hold up traffic. Suddenly from further east on Burnside, a man came running over to the man in the wheelchair, and pushed him the rest of the way over to safety. I had tears in my eyes, feeling such gratitude for this good Samaritan who helped a stranger. Hubby rolled down his window and hollered out a big thank you to the man for his kindness. In these days of chaos, confusion, anger, and hate, it was so good to see such a heartwarming sight.

Well, for this story, I’m going to re-blog a post I wrote ‘way back in 2005, and all in pidgin. Cuz no can write stories about hanabata days in Hawaiʻi without getting da pidgin in dea, yeah?

No ask me why da hill behind my hale stay called “Motorcycle Hill”. Part of da Koʻolau Mountain Range, and not too far from Waʻahila Ridge, rumor had it dat sometimes da kāne would race dea bikes from da top down to da bottom. Adunno if I believe dat, cuz I wen grow up in Mānoa Valley, wea we wen get over 100” of rain a year. U know wat dat means: choke rain. Choke slippery paths, yeah? Autumn Colors

This year it looks like we’ve gone from summer to winter…no warm temps in the 70’s as usual, as it’s been for years and years. Nope. There hasn’t been any in-between season marking the end of warm and hot days and cold ones.

But oh, the colors!! They’re the same, so absolutely breathtaking that I wish they’d last for at least two months. They’re almost too much to take in and absorb. So I go places with my camera and try to capture their beauty before they disappear for another year, maybe thinking that somehow I can make them last and fill up my soul during the gray winter months.
