Conundrum

Sock Knitters Up in Arms… or Should That Be Feet?

There is this wonderful yarn company outside Portland, Oregon.  They make the most wonderful hand-dyed yarns for socknitting, among other things.  Amazing colorways (that’s the knitting geek term for different yarn colors).  Real nice people, too.  Every year they come to Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival, and I bust my budget wide open.   Continue reading

Getting a Head Start on Christmas

Smashed Finger

Today I am feeling owee. 

Why?  Cuz my fingah wen get smashed in one door! I was at da kahakai wit my group of friends, staying in one condo.  Da doors so heavy, and pneumatic.  No no, not like sick.  Da kine close by demselves.

I wen try open da door for let in some fresh ocean air, and somehow my hand wen slip, and dat ten tousand ton door wen come crashing in on my middo fingah, trapping it between da door and da frame.  OMG.  Da pain was incredible. Continue reading

Ingenuity: Alive and Well At Vista House

You’ve seen da photos of Vista House, built in 1917.  For da past 4 years it has been going through one restoration process.  Many times I was sitting at da desk on one rainy day, with watah dripping down ontop my head.  But no more!–more–>

Da restoration is now pau.  It is beautiful, restored to its former glory.  More about that in anodda post.

One of da things dat da restorers had to figgah out was how for put in one lift for handicapped peepos to be able to get to da gift shop and restrooms on da lower level without destroying da historic integrity of da building.  Try look wat dey wen come up wit!
