Pilikia at Vista House

What I thought was going be one usual day up at Crown Point ended up being full of pilikia.  Driving up dea, I wen take dis photo of da Columbia Riva Gorge.

I wen stop at da Women’s Forum Park to get one shot of da Columbia Riva Gorge and Vista House. If u look reeyo close, u can see Vista House ontop Crown Point

One close-up. Dat huge monolith in da background is Beacon Rock. U can hike up to da very top of it by following all kine switchbacks. Da view is amazing from dea!

Dis is da old historic highway.

Italian stone masons were brought ova for do da wall and stone work.

Da first view of Vista House, coming from da old highway; dat is Washington State across da riva.

Had one wahine demonstrating how for make pine needle baskets. Every weekend at Vista House, get one Folk Art kine artist demonstrating how foa do wat dey create.

Afta I wen get my badge and sign in, I wen look at alla new displays on da lower level. Dis incredible guitar wen catch my eye. Is made outa myrtlewood and sometin else… I going check next time. See da Vista House logo on da top? Was donated to celebrate da restoration. Check out da website for more info.

When Vista House was restored lass yea, we had to have one elevata installed in order foa handicapped peeps to be able to get downstairs to da gift shop and da restrooms.  Took real engineering, but one was installed dat u cannot even see!  It lies flush wit da floor until we raise it to let peeps in. Yestaday it wen get stuck down at da bottom; da door wouldn’t open!  Da two peeps insai had to wait about 10 minutes for da door to open.  But den, we no could raise da bugga up again, so we had to shut it down. Dat was da first pilikia.  Fortunately was kinda late in da day, so was okay.

Den, da Numba Two pilikia wen happen! One wahine who comes to clean up wen hit da gas insteada da brake, and she wen go right chru da old old wall. An yes, dat is my kawila parked right next to hers one!

All da old stones wen get knocked onto da roadway below! Visitors to Vista House wen start to pick dem up outa da way. Somebody called 911. Da wahine in da car was pretty shook up, but not hurt. Da State Parks employee who was at Vista House wen call for back-up from da odda State Parks peeps, including da head honcho who was an hour away. Within 10 minutes, da fire engine wen show up.  And soon afta, da ambulance!

Chree Sheriffs wen come, including one who kept insisting dat da car had to be moved right now! But dat was not going happen.  Da car wen make one bambucha mess. Was todally stuck on da rocks.

No way of getting out till da tow truck comes.

By dis time, da head honcho from State Parks wen come, and wen axe me to document wat was going on, since I da oni one wit one camera besides da tourists. Was about 93 degrees out dea, and facing west into da sun. Ho da hot!

Da firemen used one chain saw for cut da rebar insai da wall. Da ambulance wen pull um out.

Finally da tow truck wen come. By dis time, da fire truck wen back up outa da way. ODOT (Oregon Dept of Transportation) was on da way too.

Hemo da car from da wall!

Remains of da wall.  Rememba, dis wall 80 years old!  Kinda sad. But da wall and da car can be fixed, and da wahine wasn’t hurt, and dat’s da main ting. And da tow truck kane was able to start da car, back it up, and position it for get towed.

As da hurt kawila wen go off, dis kewl one wen show up! I love dis kine!!!

By dis time was ‘way past my pau hana time, so I wen gather all my stuffs and wen head home. Vista House closes at 6, and I got outa dea at 6:30. Den I had to go home, grine, den email all my photos to bote of da State Parks kane.

Shua glad I wen take my camera!
