Silence In The Frog Pond

Sunday night I was showing Nolemana’s unfinished…(in pidgin, would that be unpau? hehehe) sweater to my friends; Linda said she would really put the sleeves and lower edge on waste yarn and try it on Nolemana before I knit any further. She thought it was going to be too small.  Instant panic.  Has my vision been all hamajang [mixed up] and I’ve been seeing a too-small sweater as big enough to fit him?  Have I been spending hours knitting all for nothing? Knitting Worship Socks on Hawaiian Time

With the extra time I’ve had in the last couple of weeks, the worship socks are coming right along.  I’m just about ready to start the toe decreases for Sock 1, and am well into the foot of Sock 2.  Another week should do it. Continue reading

How Kewt Is An Alpaca?

A couple of years ago, this wahine, Sherrie, brought over her alpaca named Mocha, hoping to lure our llamas, who needed shearing, down to the barn.  Sherrie was going to do the shearing, but the llamas no like get sheared.  But in the meantime, we got to see her kewt, kewt alpaca, named Mocha. Rockin’ Socks and an Almost-Sweater That Fits

I’m knitting Raymond’s socks out of Blue Moon Fiber Arts’ “Socks That Rock” yarn.  This yarn does rock!  It’s a joy to work with.  I love everything about it.  What I don’t love are the mistakes I’m making, requiring more frogging than I have time for.  Gah! Continue reading

LLama LLips, LLama LLove

I love our llamas!  They’re so darn cute!  They’re niele [curious] creatures who don’t like to miss out on anything.  Every time I drive up or down the driveway, I watch them to see what they’re doing. Continue reading

What Is The Color of Worship?

At our small group from church one Wednesday night, Raymond, one of our worship leaders at church, was wearing a tie-dyed pair of socks.  One man in particular was giving him a hard time about them being so bright, and I just casually tossed off that I should knit him a pair of really cool socks in bright colors. Continue reading

Spiral Baby Blankie + Baby!

I sent the spiral baby blanket to my grand-nephew and his parents last week, and today I got a surprise in my email: two photos of the baby on his new blankie! Continue reading

It’s Starting to Look Like a Sweater!!

Last night I got to the part of the sweater where I had to put the sleeves-to-be onto other pieces of yarn to wait for their turn to be knitted.  It was kinda scary, really.  I’ve never done it before, and had to trust the process.  I hesitated just a bit, took a deep breath, and plunged in. Bright Splash of Hawai`i in The Middle of Winter

Oregon is known for long days of rain, or mist or fog or watevahs.  Wet in some form.  Clouds in gray form.  I thought I going have hard time getting used to it after Hawai‘i, but ho, da surprise!  Not! Continue reading

A Loaf of Bread, A Cup of Wine and Thou?

Well, not exactly.  More like a warm chocolate chip cookie (for Snowflake), a 20-ounce, raspberry mocha (decaf, double shot, extra hot – for me), a marionberry scone and a caramel latte (for Julie), Chai tea and a scone (for Umeki), three special friends… and… the sweater for Nolemana.  Continue reading
