I bet lots of my mainland friends have no idea what omiyage means. So here, I’ll save you the trouble of looking it up:
In Japan, souvenirs are known as meibutsu (products associated with a particular region); and omiyage, candies or other edibles to be shared with co-workers.
For instance, if I go visit my cousins in Montana, I take both meibutsu and omiyage. But I never go empty-handed. You may ask, “And your point is?” Well, try wait. I’m gonna tell you. Continue reading
K’den. Should I post about our trip to daboonies or continue with da Mystery Road Trip Revealed? Mo bettah I think stay on track. It’s hard to believe that this trip started a year ago almost to the day. We left home October 4, 2009! First I did Da Mystery Road Trip on this blog, then started all over again revealing where we’d been. Ho, how time flies. A year ago today we were just getting home from that amazing trip.
We wen get one appraisal request dat is so far out in daboonies! We neva even wen hea of dis town befoa. Is dis tiny town surrounded completely by forest, wit one population less den 500. Get stoa. Get post office. Get a few peeps. Dat’s it. Needless to say, I going take my camera. Going try do da next Mystery Road Trip Revealed installment tomorrow. No can wait till Thursday, too. Stay tuned!
When we get an appraisal request in, we never know exactly what to expect when we do the inspection. This last one really gave us a surprise!
Whoo hoo! Tomorrow is OFFF! Fiber! Yarn! Llamas! Sheep! Color! Friends! Fiber! Maybe even a camel! I stay going! Been waiting all year for it! I love the environment, our small county fairgrounds filled with so much eye candy I can hardly stand it. Julie and I stay going together. Let the games begin!! See you on da odda side….
Southeastern Idaho. About as different from Montana as you can get. The land is pretty flat and quite desert-y. There are a lot of craggy rocks and sagebrush and not a whole lot else. It looks pretty barren. But the sky is big, blue, and seemingly endless, uncluttered by tall buildings that block the view.
Last month I was able to get quite a deal on apricots, something like 99 cents a pound. So I decided to make apricot jam, something I haven’t done in what seems like forever.
We get some pretty incredible sunsets around here, and I keep a close eye on the makai sky when I think we’re gonna get one. So much of the time it’s cloudy and/or rainy… well, from about October through June… which makes for a lot of gray.
This August I happened to be watching at just the right time.
The sun was just starting to go down here.
I know times were different then. But from today’s standpoint it’s really hard to believe women bought into all this. Yet at the time, it was normal. Though I expect there were more than a few nay-sayers even back then.
