On February 25th, I wrote that although I didn’t take the photo of the day I was including it anyway, because it was my youngest daughter’s birthday and I wanted to honor her that way.

Well, today is my eldest daughter’s birthday, and I’m doing the same for her. I will be telling Leilani her birthday story later on tonight as she snuggles in bed. She was born in Idaho while a big snowstorm was going on outside; the delivery room had a skylight and I could see big fat snowflakes coming down outside.

Hauʻoli lā hānau e Leilani, my beloved first-born daughter. I love you!

Today Nolemana and I went to the Antique Spinning Wheel Showcase in Aurora, Oregon. It was held in the museum there, and there were fifty old wheels being spun on by ladies in period costume. It was really hard to choose a photo for the day from all the ones that I took! The one that I chose was of a woman wearing a Civil War dress, minus all the petticoats and hoops that a woman would ordinarily wear. She looked wonderful! She was spinning on an antique wheel, and making some lovely yarn as she did.

Just looking at her dress with ukubillion yards of fabric in it made me very glad I live in a time where I can wear shorts and slippahs!

I will be uploading more photos from the day in a few days… one is a video of a friend of mine spinning on a pendulum wheel. It was pretty amazing to watch!

This was a good day to be knitting with friends as it’s the anniversary of my dad’s suicide. It’s always a hard day for me, so I took a knitting project that required a fair amount of concentration to keep my mind occupied.

I’m knitting an infinity cowl with my own handspun; I love the way the colors are turning out, and it really helped to see the colors moving through my fingers onto the cowl. Somehow, creating something pretty from fiber that I’d spun helped me to remember the good memories I have of my dad. I miss him so much.

Today’s photo is especially for my friend AFK, who loves cows. This small herd is only about a quarter of a mile from our house, and I love driving by and seeing these pīpī. Today they weren’t as close as they sometimes are, but I’m pleased with the photo.

Well, this is interesting. I had the wrong setting on my phone camera, and what was supposed to be a clear photo of a view into Washington’s Silver Star Mountain Range from a road near my house turned into something else. But let’s hear it for artistic expression!

Yes, there really is a town called Boring. It’s right next to where I live. But contrary to popular belief, it’s not because we’re boring. It was named for an early pioneer family who came over on the Oregon Trail, and the name has to do with mining. You know, like boring into the deepest caverns of the earth. Continue reading →

My blog server was down last night so I couldn’t upload yesterday’s photo. But here it is….

Today I took Hinahina to the vet for a checkup. When we took her several months ago she was having some renal failure problems and I was extremely concerned. But today was a good checkup! Hinahina has gained two pounds on her kidney/canned diet, and her blood test showed improvement too!

I was so happy!

Hinahina, however, was not. Stink eye to da max!
