A Dramatic Rescue

This is a true story that took place twenty-one years ago when Nolemana and I were vacationing for a week at Lake Tahoe, and when I was heavily involved in volunteering with a wildlife rescue organization.

This was going to be a difficult rescue. The bird was ‘way out on the dry alkali bed on the perimeter of the Alkali Lake Wildlife Management area in western Nevada, about seventy miles east of Lake Tahoe, where Nolemana and I were on vacation. Continue reading

Don’t Bug Me!

Autumn in Oregon is so beautiful! Everywhere I turn, I see colors of gold and yellow and red, and this year, they seem to be especially lovely. It’s interesting to see which trees turn first, which ones have a mixture of yellow and green, and to see the progression of flaming colors to leafless trees, which quite frankly, happens far too fast for me. I think Autumn should last at least another month with the trees and shrubs on “stop” until I feel as though I have drunk my fill. Continue reading

Knitting Aloha Between Generations

About a month ago, Karie, the wife in the husband-wife team who owns Hawaiian Beanz, told me that her daughter Amanda would like to learn how to knit. Amanda and I had talked several times, and of course, she’d seen me knitting with my friends there on numerous occasions. Continue reading

Numbah Two Aloha Prayer Shawl Pau!

I finished the Numbah Two prayer shawl (actually it’s more like Numbah Five) last week and gave it to my friend. She’d seen me working on it, but had no idea it was for her. We were at Bible Study at the home of the wahine [woman] I’d given the first one to, and we went outside for some privacy. Continue reading
