R-Games

So yesterday, with my friend Nancy for moral support, I frogged (ripped out) two socks. I was going to finish them (they were pretty darn close to being done) and knit their mates for the R-Games. Well, that ain’t gonna happen. That was too discouraging. So I decided to finish another sock I found and knit it’s mate, and to do some spinning as well. Because girls just wanna have fun, ya know? Ravelympics Ravellenic Games

I got so busy during the Tour de Fleece that I forgot to post photos for that. I will, I will. And now it’s time for the Ravelry Ravellenic Games, which used to be called the Ravelympics, but we can’t say that anymore. The US Olympic Committee said so. So the powers that be on Ravelry changed the name to the Ravellenic Games, which is quite a mouthful.

Holoholo Kaʻa to Amity, Part Two

You know, sometimes I get so upset with myself for not keeping this blog updated! I have so many photos to share, and then I get distracted or have to spend more time working, and it seems to vanish into the ether somewhere. I never finished the kitty story, never finished my drive to Amity! I keep saying I’ll do better and then I don’t. I should just schedule a weekly time to do it.

So here I am, a month and a half later, trying to finish the Amity drive, Because really, I loved doing it and it was so much fun crossing and re-crossing the river. Continue reading

Holoholo Ka’a to Amity

Ho, da long time, yeah? I bet nobody stay ova hea anymoa! But in case u stay, hea goes.

My myrtlewood spinning wheel flyer needed some repair, so after contacting the best woodworker around who restores spinning wheels and builds parts for them, I headed down to Amity, Oregon, one sunny morning. The drive down I-5 to the Brooks exit was pretty uneventful, so I took no photos. Aside from the fact that I don’t take photos while I’m driving. Continue reading

The best laid plans…

Well, I thought I’d have time for an update, but I’m heading to the beach with The Gathering Girls for a four-day retreat, leaving Nolemana at home to mind the fort. After what I’ve been through the past three months, I need this break! See ya when I get back!

Kalakoa Comes Home!

Well, it’s been awhile, but remember how I had to leave Kalakoa, the kitten I adopted, at the shelter because she had a feline respiratory illness? Well, it was almost time for her to come home the last time I visited her.

Keola Meets Noelani, Part Three

Well, there was no question about it. Keola wasn’t going to hiss or growl at Noelani, and she wasn’t going to do the same thing to him. There was no raised fur, only friendliness. I was in awe.

Keola Meets Noelani, Part Two

I have a little bit of time so thought I would get an update done. I appreciate everyoneʻs patience while I am in caregiver role big time. Last time I posted, Keola was just about to meet Noelani. So letʻs see what happened.

Good Reason For My Absence

I know, I know. I left you in the middle of pōpoki tales. I’m really sorry. But I have a really good reason.

Early Friday morning on February 3rd, Nolemana woke me up, saying he was having chest pains and thought we needed to go to ER. Which we did. To make a long story short, a week later he was in surgery at a hospital in downtown Portland, having a double bypass. In the two days he was home prior to surgery, I gracefully managed to trip over the kitty scratcher on the floor, hitting my upper rib hard on the armrest of a very hard wicker chair and have been in a great deal of pain. Keola Meets Noelani

It was time for Keola and Noelani to meet. We’d been keeping her in the laundry room for quarantine for a few days and to get her used to being somewhere other than the shelter. So we put her in the carrier and brought her into the living room.

Keola walked all around the carrier. There was not a single hiss or growl from either kitty!

Then there was some mutual sniffing.

Then Keola walked around the carrier again. Still not one hiss or growl. It was amazing.

Then he tried to shake hands with Noelani.

And he tried again.

In our next installment, Noelani gets to come out of the carrier. What will happen then? Stay tuned!
