My Spinning Wheel Stay Fixed!

So yesterday my spinning wheel came back to me! I’d talked to Kyle at Paradise Fibers and he told me it was all pau and he was just getting ready to ship it back to me. So, not only did he fix what was broken, he also replaced a bushing, three bearings, and a piece that goes on the bottom of one of the legs! He just did it because he knew the wheel needed the restoration, and he told me that now it spun perfectly. Continue reading

My Spinning Wheel Wen Broke

Well, I don’t mean my spinning wheel wen broke. I mean one of dem wen broke.

My Louet S70, is a workhorse. I bought it used about eighteen years ago. I already had a spinning wheel, but a friend of mine told me that her friend was selling her Louet and it’d be a really great wheel for me to have, especially for plying, because of its huge bobbins. And the price was perfect. So what did I do? I wen buyum, of course.

I took that wheel to my spinning guild and anywhere else that I needed a really portable wheel. It has served me faithfully and I really love it.

My First Letter From Liz!

When I went to the post office yesterday I was delighted to find a letter from Liz (Lees), the little girl I’m sponsoring through Compassion International. I was so excited I could hardly wait to get home to read it. But the closer I got to home the more I realized that I wanted to read it in the quiet of my day so that I could really savor it. No Snow On Da Mountain

So last week Nolemana and I had an appraisal to do in Government Camp, up on the slopes of Mt Hood. Which, by now, should be covered in snow, making skiers and snowboarders and cross country folks very happy. And normally I’d have studded tires on to make it possible to drive on the snowy, hilly, roads up there. But guess what? No skiers, no boarders, no studded tires. Why? Cuz nomo da snow! Da Bestest Christmas Present Ever

I’ve known for quite awhile that the likelihood of having moʻopuna is pretty non-existent. Which has caused a huge ache in my heart. Especially as I watch most of my friends rejoicing when there are new, tiny, additions to their families. I look at their grandbabies’ photos and can be happy for them, but inside, I have really been hurting. It’s been really hard to hear the announcements that they have new grandkids coming. Continue reading

December, 2013

Seriously, I have more going on in my life than a new mattress. So now gotta play catch-up.

On December 2, my friends from The Gathering and I went holoholo kaʻa on a 3 1/2 day beach retreat to Seaside, Oregon. The weather peeps had been warning us that a major cold front was approaching, with snow very cold temps, but the morning we left we had clear roads and pretty blue skies. Two of my friends have reserved seats in my van every time we go to the beach, and I picked them up at 10 a.m. in Portland; the three of us always travel together so well, and this time was no exception. I couldn’t get Christmas music (yet) on Sirius XM (oh yeah, another freebie that came with my new kawila!), so all the way over we listened to Hanukkah music and it was wonderful! Continue reading
