A wonderful surprise today.

Today I was driving down my driveway on the way to the gym. Went around the corner and there was a young doe staring at me! But Iʻd forgotten my cell phone. Of all the times to forget it. So hoping against hope, I backed up (not an easy task on a curve with an 18% grade!), hurried back into the house and grabbed my cell phone, and went back out.

This time I went down much slower, and thought Iʻd missed her altogether. But nope, she was still there. When she saw me, she decided to leave. I wished Iʻd brought my good camera but didnʻt want to leave it in my car or locker at the gym.

Can you see her down there?

Throwback Thursday Numbah Five

This photo of my beloved brother and me was taken in the front yard of our hale on Alani Drive. We were close then and have remained close all of our lives. I adored him then and adore him now.

We loved the rock behind us; we’d climb up on it and jump down. Family members would pose on or in front of it, and it was a huge part of our lives growing up.  Sometimes we’d pick at the lichen on it, and there was an indentation in the top of it where water would collect.   It was a wonderful addition to our yard, and we called it “the bottom rock”, meaning it was at the bottom of our yard.  So original, yeah?

Montana Road Trip 2010, Part Twenty-One

K’den.  We go. Musubi loved riding ontop TryLook, our GPS.  His cape, made foa him by Clare (who made Musubi, too!), is hiding our exact location, but I know we are coming to the end of Highway 86. The Crazy Mountains were still in front of us. Musubi, who loves road trips as much as I do, also loves TryLook. He has had quite a time getting used to our new built-in TryLook. Wat?  U think Musubi is not real?  Wrong.

But I digress.

Finding Spiritual Whitespace

whitespace-badge (1)

I just received my copy of Bonnie Gray’s (Bonnie blogs over at Faith Barista) “Spiritual Whitespace – Awakening Your Soul to Rest”. I’ve read the introduction, and already I can see that there is very little whitespace in my life. You know, those times when I’m not filling every single moment with doing and not being.

For instance, while I’m waiting for an appraisal file to load, I head over to Ravelry or Facebook or Pinterest or my blog or others’ blogs or my email. Multi-tasking. I’m very good at it. If I’m talking on the phone it’s really easy for me to do data entry at the same time while listening to music and watching the birds outside. But why?

I hope that reading the book will help me to find those whitespace times so that I can be more appreciative of them.  They’re there. I know they are. I just have to learn to not fill them with other stuffs.

Throwback Thursday Numba Chree

Here’s an old photo of me and my brother down at Ala Wai Yacht Harbor again.  I think we were watching our papa-san rowing in. Try look my curly Portagee hair!  Barefoot keiki, hanabata days. Good memories.  I think we were about four and three here.

Montana Road Trip 2010, Chapter Twenty

We were now heading northeast on Highway 86, and as always, I kept my eyes open for pīpī photos for AFK.  I saw these two mama cows with their calves, so we stopped to take photos. Which was really easy because there was absolutely no other traffic on this highway.

Throwback Thursday Numbah Two

I remembered to do it!

This is a photo of my papa-san rowing my brother Kaniela and me around the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor.  Our dad loved the ocean, being on the water, and sailing, and I am so blessed that he started us early.  We were never afraid of the water, and I know we got that from Dad.

And check it out.  No life vests or anything.

Lā Makuahine 2014 – Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge

My daughter Anela wondered if I’d like to go to Ridgefield for Mother’s Day.  Would I!  You betcha!  My other daughter, Leilani, was out of town, so Anela and I headed out just after noon on Saturday.

She bought me a latté and took a selfie.  I’m not a huge fan of selfies (mines ones), but on Friday I realized that there are no photos of my mom and me, so I wen hemo my reservations about it and went for the gusto.  I want my girls to have photos of us together.  So even though I feel kinda ack about da photo….
