Montana Road Trip 2015, Chapter Twenty-FIve

We spent several days with Cousins, enjoying our sightseeing time in and around Bozeman.  Best of all were our mealtimes and evenings together, which were filled with laughter and talks about our shared family histories, and skeletons in the closet.  One night we got to thinking about movies we loved, and we discovered that we all loved “Mad Mad Mad Mad World”.  Cousins had the video, so they got everything hooked up, and the four of us spent a glorious ninety minutes watching that crazy movie, laughing like lolos.

Montana Road Trip 2010, Chapter Twenty-Four

Ha. I bet by the time we get back home on this road trip I’ll be up to Part Ukubillion!  You can see Canyon Creek down there; we parked right at the bridge.  You can see the sandbar where we saw the pelicans last time.

Montana Road Trip 2010, Chapter Twenty-Three

I don’t know whether or not to laugh or cry or go hide in the bushes! No can believe it’s been so long since I did an update for our 2010 Montana road trip! Yikes!

Well, it’s out of time out, so here we go again. Last time, Nolemana and I were traveling south along Highway 89, and had just passed through the tiny town of Clyde Park. Little did we know that we were about to see something absolutely fantastic!

Antique Spinning Wheel Showcase 2015, Part Two

These two lovely ladies were at the table where the raffle tickets for the wheel I was spinning on were being sold. Six foa five dollah! Some people bought $20.00 worth of tickets.  One wahine told me that it only takes one ticket, so that’s all she bought.

Antique Spinning Wheel Showcase 2015

Last weekend was the annual showcase in Aurora, Oregon.  This is a yearly event and it’s absolutely wonderful, put on by the Aurora Colony Historical Society and the Aurora Colony Handspinners Guild.  It’s a two-day event, and all wheels showcased must be at least a hundred years old.  In addition, all the spinners must be dressed in costumes that reflect those times; we’re all volunteers and we have a lot of fun.

Hauʻoli Makahiki Hou

I kinda don’t know where to start.  It’s been a bittersweet past six weeks.  I love that word “bittersweet”; it’s that kind of word that says it all. Good stuff, not so good stuff, bad stuff.  All wrapped up in eleven letters.

Bittersweet. Everything all mixed up together, uneven, not linear.  Good and bad, fun and not fun, all in the same day, or the same week, or the same month. Continue reading

Ho Da Ice!!

Last week the forecast was for snow/ice/freezing rain/sleet. Take your pick. We knew temps were going to get into the low twenties, so we (meaning Nolemana) put the tarp around the doves’ aviary, covered all the outside faucets, drained the water going down to the pasture, and turned on the light in the well pump area.  We also got the bird bath heater installed. Small Kine Road Trip

Several years ago my good friend Carol told me that she had an old spinning wheel in her attic that had been made by her husband’s grandfather. I contacted Steven McEwen of Q’s Quality Wood Work, who said that he could repair it and would try to have it completed in time for Fiber Fusion Northwest.  I told Carol that I could pick it up for her since she couldnʻt to; I mean, hey. A new fiber-y event to go to, right?

Well, as it turned out, her wheel wasn’t ready but someone else on Ravelry needed a wheel that Steven had repaired brought back to this area, so I volunteered to do it.   Road trip! Continue reading

Sharing Aloha Far From Home

Last December a child’s face on the Compassion International website captured my heart. I’d been thinking about sponsoring a child after my friend Sara told me what a rewarding experience it was for her. I looked over the hundreds of little faces staring out at me, but when I saw Liz Andreaʻs little face, I thought my heart would stop. I wanted to reach through my monitor and hug her right then and there.
