Kawila Update

K’den, here’s the latest. I emailed my car estimate to Don, the towing company guy; he asked me to go see the guy he uses, which I agreed to do. I know I didn’t have to, but I thought that it’d be a good idea, because if his guy was low, I could agree to meet him in the middle, i.e., Womack’s.

So his guy took ‘way less time in looking things over; we went into his office and in less than five minutes, he had the estimate for me. I’m tempted to make you folks guess again, but I’ll be nice. Ready?

Da Estimates

I really feel bad for the kid who came out to put on my spare tire. I hope he doesn’t get fired.

Here are the two estimates.  Remember, these are only preliminary estimates. If, when they get everything taken apart, it could be more.

I’m actually pretty surprised at how close they came out.  Sure, the dealer’s labor charges are higher, but both companies said the same things to repair my car.  3-5 days to fix. Yup. Rental car for shua.

Time to Guess

K’den.  Here’s another photo, from the front side of the damage.

That da kine in the top photo is broken.  So it has to be replaced. And to fix the fender, whoever fixes it has to take off the fender. Oh yeah, and the front door, too. And oh, the rear view mirror. And the headlight. And the door handle. Because my kawila has a clear coat finish, they have to match everything. Who would’ve ever dreamed all that?  But the second estimate I got today from my dealer said the same as our auto body shop.  The only difference is a higher labor charge from the dealer; otherwise, the estimates are almost exactly the same.

And as a good friend of mine pointed out, the towing company should be paying for a rental car for me, too.  Because it’s gonna take 3-4 days to fix everything.

So. You thought the excitement was pau, yeah?  Not.

I had a dentist appointment yesterday; I have a fantastic dentist, but because I never had Novocaine when I was a kid (don’t ask me why), getting dental work done isn’t easy for me. But it had to be done, so I went out to my car.  Oops.  Flat tiyah. So I had to borrow Nolemana’s car and he said he’d call AAA while I was gone.  Sounds, fine, yeah?

From Sheep and Llamas To Ferocious Buzzing

Lest you folks think my life is all about sheep and llamas and Montana and Hawaiian kine stuffs, oh yeah, and knitting and spinning, I’m here to show you that it’s not. Seriously.

Last week our property manager let me know that our tenants had told him there were some vicious bees that attacked a salesman at our house. Bees?  Or hornets?  Yes, to quote someone on Ravelry, I am a foot soldier in the battle to end bee slander.  There is a huge difference between bees, hornets, wasps, and yellow jackets. 2015 Shearing Day, Chapter Three

Well, next it was Titus’ turn to get sheared. His horns made great handles for Johnny to use!  And once Titus was lying down, he remained really calm and easy to shear. I always feel a little da kine, seeing those horns and male shearers’ anatomy in such close proximity. But Johnny is really good at what he does, and everything went without a snag. (Pun intended.)

Shearing Day 2015, Chapter Two

Well, between the two of them, Danny and Johnny encouraged Rayado over to the fence outside the barn. Nolemana had set things up so that the shearing could be inside, but it was hot in there, and Johnny could shear near a tree.  Ricky and Miss B looked on with amusement.

Shearing Day 2015

We’ve had some awesome shearers over the years like John and Eddie. They’ve both done terrific jobs for us; but the past couple of years our schedules haven’t been able to work out. So last fall, we got a new shearer named Johnny Vargas, and wow. He’s incredible. He sheared Paul and Titus in October, but suggested that we wait to shear Rayado till spring, because sheared llamas don’t do nearly as well as sheep during the cold winter months. Not that we had any last winter, but we had no way of knowing that then.
