Trip to California, Chaptah Two

K’den. By dis time, we had been on da road foa five hours. Poor Musubi. He no stay used to alla travelling, and he wen decide…

…to take one nappie.

But he wen wake up when we wen reach da summit of Sexton Mountain.

Had one nani view from up dis high. Elevation hea is 1970 feet.

We stay leaving Oregon. I wen feel pretty sad about dis point.

Befoa we wen leave home, I wen go Olson Farms foa some Bing Cherries. ‘Ono kine snack foa da road. Da ownah wen tell me, “Eh, u no can take dem tings across da California border cuz is one stone fruit; dey not going lettum in.” (Well, he neva wen talk pidgin, but dat’s how I stay writing, yeah?) I wen tell him dat just six weeks befoa my dottah and I wen go sailing right on by da inspection station; he wen look doubtful, but Nolemana and I wen decide foa risk it. If we gotta give up da Bings, den so be it… but I going have plenny wai maka if da inspectors go kakaroach um!

I wen get kinda nervous when we saw dis sign, but oni said trucks gotta stop.

Just aftah da sign, we wen see Mt Shasta foa da first time on dis trip:

Anden we wen zip right by da inspection station!!

Anderson Grade Summit. Elevation 2963′. Da road we stay on going alla way up to da right.

Anodda photo of Mt Shasta, almost to Yreka. (Why Reeka). Dat litto peak to da right of da photo stay called “Little Shasta”. Up in da mountains, Musubi no could stand up in da middo of da dashboard, so his new place stay wit his front feets wedged in so he no fall, right next to TryLook. Dis is da place he liked da best.

Now we stay almost to da town of Granada. U can see Mt Shasta in dis photo, too. But eh! Wea stay alla green? I wen tell u nomo!

Get pipi photos foa AFK! So hard foa get good ones at 70 mph! But I neva foaget u! Is now 7:12 p.m.

Get moa. Dis photo litto moa bettah.

Dis is da highway just North of Weed, California. According to Wikipedia, Weed is a city located in Siskiyou County, California. As of the 2000 Census, the town had a total population of 2,978. Weed is about 10 miles (16 km) west-north-west of Mount Shasta, a prominent northern California landmark. It was named for pioneer mill owner Abner Weed, who discovered that the area’s strong winds were helpful in drying lumber. By the 1940’s, Weed boasted the world’s largest sawmill. Weed stay 49 miles South of da Oregon/California border. Try look da moon already up in da sky.

Little Shasta.

From hea on out, was getting too dark foa take good photos. By da time we wen get to Redding, was almost 9 p.m. and 92 degrees! Ho da hot! TryLook was awesome! She wen maneuver us mauka and makai and ‘Ewa and Diamond Head right to da front door of Fuji Japanese Restaurant! Dis was our first experience wit TryLook really doing her job in one complicated area. BUT!! Was just befoa 9 p.m., and no look like anybody stay! Auwe! But we wen walk up to da door and dey stay closing at 9:00. We wen turn around, but dis wonderful wahine wen open it, telling us foa come insai. We wen tell her, “Nah, nah, is too late anden, u stay closing.” But she wen urge us insai, so we wen go in, oh, so grateful.

We were so dang hot and tired after such a long day, and da grindz were fabulous. I stay too tired foa take photos, but I can tell u dis: da service and da food were fantastic. If evah we back in dis area, we going stop again.

Pau eat, we still had anodda 30 minutes to go, to get to Red Bluff and da motel. I had made alla motel reservations online, and wen program everything, including eating places, into TryLook, so wit da punch of a couple of buttons, off we went.

We wen get to Red Bluff adunno wat time. In Chaptah Chree, u going find out why I wen choose dis particular motel.

Yes, big difference between the multi shades of green to, what? Brown? Amazing what a little milage can do to locations. But the pictures are great and Musubi, poor thing, getting so tired already. You know, even with the naked mountains, it is still so pretty. Hawaii no’moa vastness like that, and it seems to go on and on. That’s pretty amazing…. K… I like spawk the motel now. *he he*

Oh wow. I was unprepared for how happy it would make me to see those shots of Northern CA, my old stomping grounds. I love your storytelling.
