They Multiply In The Night

I wanted to learn to spin for years. It seemed like something so wonderful, so creative. Nolemana and I had taken a drive over to Tillamook, and in a myrtlewood store I’d seen a lovely wheel made out of myrtlewood, that I dreamed about for years afterwards. I longed to get a wheel, but knew there was no point buying one if I didn’t know how to spin. I had to consider that I might end up hating it, even though I knew I wouldn’t. But Nolemana and I agreed that discretion was the better part of valor, so I waited. Continue reading

Spinnin’

For the first time in ages I got out my wheel; well, one of them, that is. That’s another story for another time. Two years ago at Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival I bought a fabulous fleece from my friend Harriet Beck of Beck’s Sheep Farm and U-Cut. Nâ Pua o Ka Lâ Makuahine

Living here in Oregon, I really miss the sights and fragrances of home. I used to be able to walk outside our front door and smell plumeria flowers by the hundreds. Just outside the back door was a huge red hibiscus bush. I’d frequently take blossoms from each one of them to put in my hair; sometimes I’d make lei out of the plumeria blossoms. Continue reading

Bird of Paradise Sock

I started a new sock yesterday. This yarn is also from Maui Yarns, and I fell in love with the colorway. I’m just about down to the heel flap already. These colors are not my usual ones, but I am so pleased with the way this sock is turning out that I may have to get a couple of shirts just to go with it! Continue reading
