The Price of Procrastination

I switched over to Gmail in 2008, and last week I got a notice from them saying that I was running outa email space. Hah? U mean I no get unlimited space? Ack! K’den, time foa do some deleting, right? And yeah, I admit it…I’m not really great about keeping my inbox cleaned out. I get busy, and don’t put emails I want to keep in their proper folders (of which I get plenny). These aren’t emails that I’ve instigated…they’re either replies to me or people contacting me for one reason or another.

So last Saturday I decided to bite the bullet and do some housekeeping. I did some checking, and was aghast to find out that I had…oh my gosh, it pains me to admit this…do I dare?

I had over 45,000 emails in my inbox. And that doesn’t even include “social” and “promotions”. OMG.

I mean, really. 45,000!!! That’s insane! (And I can hear you laughing, in shock.) So I went to the oldest emails, like from 2008, and began sorting, filing, and deleting. Big batch deleting.

I also decided that I’d put on my big girl panties and not only file, sort, and delete my daily emails, but that I’d do the same with the older ones, making myself do at least 200 per day. Gmail gives me 25 per page, so that’s 8 pages, minimum. At this rate, and I’m no good at math, it’s still gonna take me a really long time to get it all pau.

On the bright side, finding the old emails is kinda like having journal entries. I’ve kept a journal for years and years, but the emails give me a good look into what was going on in my life at the time. No, I’m not reading every single email. I’d never get anything done if I did! I’m hardly reading any at all, for that matter.

As of today, I’m pleased to announce that I’m now under the 40,000 mark! Down to 39,326, to be exact. My next goal is to get down to 35,000. Which is still choke emails to go through. I can just hear Lurkah saying, “Ho, Mokihana, so Portagee you!” I must admit that it’s giving me great satisfaction to see those numbers go down, even though it’s a pretty time consuming job. I’ve also decided to stop subscribing to a buncha stuffs, because I just can’t keep up with everything.

So if I’m more quiet here than usual, now you know hakum.
