February 16

Today’s photo isn’t my photo, but I think it still counts.

Several months ago a Ravelry member who I didn’t know at all asked other Ravelry members to help her with a comfort blanket for her cousin. The young man is a self-employed roofer, and after the death of their mom, he legally took custody of his younger brother and has been raising him ever since. Matt is only 26 years old and fell off a roof and badly, really badly, injured his foot.

To quote his stepmom:

“He sustained an injury that only occurs in 0.1% of injuries. He shattered his heel, complete dislocation of foot to leg, multiple other broken bones, compression injury, and had lose of blood flow to the site for over 90 minutes. It’s the worst possible injury to have and he may loose his foot. The pain level unlike anything I’ve ever witnessed. Please add him to your prayer list for me. Please pray that his pain level is manageable, that he doesn’t loose his foot now or later down the road, that they are able to reconstruct his foot, and that he is able to use it.”

We were all asked to knit 5″ squares so that the woman on Ravelry could put them all together in the blanket. I sent in three of them, and just today, we got photos of the finished blanket.

So that’s why I feel they count as my photo of the day. I feel so honored and privileged to have been a small part of this beautiful blanket.

The finished blanket:

And the blanket on its recipient, who loves it.
