It’s funny how no matter how great my pain, the stuff in the garden keeps growing as though it hadn’t a care in the world. Which really it doesn’t, so long as everything gets watered and fed regularly. Which is as it should be.

I didn’t pay too much attention to the zucchini last week, though the lush green of the zucchini was nurturing to me. I knew we had blossoms on one of them (the others wen mahkediedead but this one survived the plague). So tonight I walked outside just to see what was going on, and to my surprise, saw this:

I’d been crying off and on all day long, and got more wai maka seeing that zucchini growing so well. I looked more carefully and saw this:

Oh my gosh! More zucchini coming along!

Hard to see all the tiny ones, but they’re there.

Nolemana replaced the yellow crookneck squash that had died:

He replaced the cucumbers and planted some Butternut Squash too.

He bought more tomatoes and we put them in the wagon that Leilani and Anela used to ride in.

The tomatoes on the deck are doing well.

It’s a good thing for me to see everything growing so well; it’s confirmation that life continues, that growth comes despite pain (and sometimes because of it), and that even in the midst of the toughest times I can find joy in the simple things like a zucchini or a tomato.

I even finished a sock.
