Nâ Lâ Hinahina [Gray Days]

Hinahina. Gray. There is no other word for the color of the days lately. Last week when I woke up, I was greeted by gray. Today when I woke up I was greeted by more gray.

Last week, this is what my view looked like:

Wow. Blind mullet view! Let’s get some perspective here. There, that’s better.

Now let’s try over to the left:

Like I said. Gray.

This morning when I woke up, I was in the middle of a rain cloud. Actually, I love this view, the rainclouds slowly drifting by my window.

People looking up at our place from down on the road could have seen one of my favorite Oregon views, the wispy rainclouds against the green fir trees.

Within just a short while, those wispy rainclouds had turned into heavy, pouring rain. The gutters couldn’t keep up with all of it.

It just kept coming down, harder and harder. This is just outside my office.

The birds took cover in the onslaught. There were none to be found.

‘Ukulele snuggled under her blanket while the rain poured down.

Ka ua hinahina. The gray rain. Oregon rain. I love it!

  1. AFK says:

Kawaii neko-chan! I cooed over the picture of your popoki. She looks like a calico – if she is, Japanese consider her good luck.

  2. Lovely cloudy views, though I must confess I’m not a fan of gray days. Hinahina sounds like a lament to me.

Of course in Michigan after the autumn leaves and until the snow falls its all gray and brown most days.
