It’s Gold Medal Time!

I finished my socks!  I holed up in the living room, telling my husband to leave me alone, no interruptions, upon fear of death please, so that I could really concentrate on what I was doing.

With my close friend’s little dog, whom I’m dogsitting, on my lap for comfort, I began my mantra for the Kitchener stitch, which grafts together the toe of the socks: “knit, slip, purl, purl, slip, knit”.  Slow and steady, concentrating. Breathing calmly, I think. And I did it! Not only did I do it on my ‘Ōhelo Berry Socks, I also did it on the first pair of socks that I ever started!

I got the socks washed and blocked, and they’re now dry and ready to have their photos taken.  I’m sending a photo to The Oregonian newspaper, which has requested all competitors do.  I’m not sure if they’ll post all the pics in the newspaper, but wouldn’t it be fun if they did!

So here is my pair of Gold Medal ‘Ōhelo Berry Socks:

I sent my response to you at Socknitters too soon, before I took a look. Your socks are really lovely, Mokihana! Although — I can’t imagine wearing socks where you live . Our son lives in Manoa too; we spent the first week of Feb. there this year and loved it.
