June 14 – Really cool car

Caught at a stoplight in the thriving metropolis of Boring, Oregon. Well, we’ve got two stoplights! Gorgeous old ’55 Buick… bright red, and perfect for Flag Day.

Mahalo to my papa-san, who gave me the gift of his love of old cars and taught me how to tell them apart.

June 12 – Sailors’ Delight

I just finished washing this skein of Blue-Faced Leicester yarn after plying and plying and plying and plying and plying… for hours and hours. Which means that I took two bobbins full of singles (which means a single strand of yarn) and plied them together. Now this yarn is ready to knit with. So far I have 571 yards +/-, but I still have more plying to do. So really, I have no idea what my yardage will be; and I also have no idea what I’m going to knit with this. The name of the colorway is “Sailors’ Delight”, hand-dyed by Amber of Taylored Fibers.

But one thing I do know… I am extremely pleased with my spinning!

“Red sky at morning, sailors take warning,
Red sky at night, sailors’ delight!”

Red sky at night, sailors delight.
When we see a red sky at night, this means that the setting sun is sending its light through a high concentration of dust particles. This usually indicates high pressure and stable air coming in from the west. Basically good weather will follow.

Red sky in morning, sailor’s warning.
A red sunrise reflects the dust particles of a system that has just passed from the west. This indicates that a storm system may be moving to the east. If the morning sky is a deep fiery red, it means a high water content in the atmosphere. So, rain is on its way.

June 11 – Ladybug

Nolemana gave me this adorable ladybug planter for Mother’s Day… I just love it. When the flowers really get blooming, it’s gonna be so beautiful!

June 10 – Huh?

Okay, try wait. This truck is on the road. It’s stopped at a light. I come up behind it. I am also turning left. How can I not follow it? And what about after we turn the corner? Do I have to go a different way so that I don’t follow it?

June 8 – The mountain is out

Nolemana and I had an appraisal to do up in Government Camp; it was a gorgeous day, and the mountain was out!

June 7 – Pasture mowing

Ricky, the horse we’re boarding, had terrible allergies last year from all the grass in the pasture. He got the heaves really bad and we thought we were going to lose him, so now we get the pasture mowed.

Rayado, Paul, and Titus had been napping under the fir tree, but when they hear the noise, they came out to see what was going on.

And now, for your viewing pleasure to really get a feel for it, here are a couple of videos!

One more, close up. This is a very bouncy job!

June 6 – One big truck!

We’re having GW Construction in Gresham build a carport for my new kawila; we should’ve done it years ago, but didn’t. And as a result, my white van was hard to keep clean; she’d get fir sap, fir pollen, and fir needles all over her. As soon as we had a little extra kala, we hired Orvill to build us a carport next to the garage. Because, ya know, there’s stuff in the garage! Which we’re slowly getting rid of, by da way.

The truck bringing the lumber had to back up all the way up our very long driveway. 1/10 of a mile, and an 18% grade at the curve. Orvill walked behind, guiding the driver of the long flatbed. They all finally got up, not without panting on a certain member of the team. But no trees were broken, and the flatbed didn’t even get a little bit off the driveway. So all was good.

Here’s the truck with the lumber and other supplies in front of the garage.

I had to leave, and my car was parked a ways down the driveway so it’d be out of the way, but as I passed the lumber truck I turned around to look at it. Ho da big!!

Ever seen “Duel” with Dennis Weaver! Todally scary dat movie! And the front of this truck reminded me of that.

June 5 – Visitors at The Gathering

The Gathering is what we call ourselves. We are a group of women who knit, worship, pray, have fun, and share each other’s joys and sadnesses every Wednesday. We’ve been together since about 2001, and our relationships are deep and strong. We’ve had many visitors over the years; some who stay and some who don’t. But today’s three visitors came dressed in their finest clothes and we welcomed them with open arms. They undoubtedly will not stay, but while they were there, we loved having them.

Here is the leader of that group:

LOL!!!

This morning before we got to Sara’s house, this guy actually got into her house!

He toured the whole upstairs, and eventually ended up at the dining room door, where he was ushered outside. Try look the size of his feet!!

We never know who might show up at The Gathering; these three really brightened our day! They hung around all day; Sara was not too pleased with their raucous calls in the afternoon, however.
