365 Days 2023, Numbah Seventy-Eight

October 7th

Hairy Woodpecker at the birdbath.
Kahili Ginger blossoms. Already onaona da fragrance!
Bessie coming down from the thicket where she stashed her calf again.
There are three feed buckets, but apparently Bessie likes sharing better.
Daily hummingbird.

October 8th

Da daily pīpī.
Daily hummingbird doing ballet.
Our entryway.

Today we took a field trip to Hood River and stopped in Cascade Locks for lunch. This is the bridge from there to the Washington side of the Columbia River. Looking makai.

Looking mauka.

Cool old coffee grinder on the wall where we ate lunch.. There were lots of them.
Trains!
The Sternwheeler was going by! I was so glad we had a window table.

I was able to get this video of it from inside the restaurant. Sorry about alla choke noise from inside.

Model sternwheelers.

In Hood River, at Mountain View Orchards. They had a wonderful dahlia garden, so we wandered in it for awhile. It made up for not being able to see all of Swan Island Dahlias.

Apples and pears! We brought our own bags as requested.

Everywhere we walked, there was the mountain!

We went back home through Cascade Locks on the way home so that we could buy some fresh-caught salmon from people in the local tribes. I love supporting them this way and we go there every fall for the salmon. Sorry, no photos but.

Mileage from today’s trip.

That sternwheeler is sooooo cool. They don’t make ’em like that any more. How nice that you’re able to enjoy the fruits and flowers (and hummers and cows) in their season.

What a wonderful post today!! LOVE the woodpecker pic (say that 5 times fast) and the Sternwheeler is really cool! Maybe I can take my grandson some time when I go up to Portland to visit!

I couldn’t say “woodpecker pic” five times fast! Hahahaha! I think your grandson, and you too, would love the Sternwheeler. It goes upriver quite a ways; they serve food, too, if you want it. I spent the whole time out on deck, of course.
