365 Days 2023, Numbah Sixty-Two

August 11th

The horrible fires made it to our local news. My heart hurts so much for my friends and all the rest of the families who have suffered so much.
Daily pīpī. See how even more dark Hōkū is?
Daily hummingbird.

Daily pīpī. One thing we’re finding out is how much we’re enjoying having the cows here. They’re fun to have around and it’s easy to be interactive with them. Especially if we have treats!

I had to get my tire pressure sensors replaced today…so thankful for Les Schwab!

August 12th

Daily hummingbird.
Daily hummingbird with the zoomies!
Bessie, da daily pīpī.
Blackberries are ripe!
My spinning companion.
My finished yarns!

August 13th

Auē, auē. Rest in aloha, Braddah Darren. Another one gone too soon.
My nani sunflower opened up!
Finished yarn… the colorway is Mermaid from Fat Cat Knits.
And this one is Island Paradise from Southern Cross Fibre in Australia.
Daily hummingbird…outside shot.
Two daily hummingbirds!
Daily hummingbird directing the choir!

On several of the hottest days of the year, our a/c stopped working. I turned it off to save electricity $$. By 11 pm, the bedroom, which faces makai, was almost 90° for several night. This was in the hallway. And no trade winds to cool us off.

But I reminded myself that I wasn’t in Lāhainā, my house was safe, my family was safe, my friends were safe, and I wasn’t lying in a burn unit in the hospital. I was pretty hot, but my thoughts helped to keep things in perspective. I stayed up really late, hoping it’d cool off.

August 14th

Oh wow… I saw this photo on Instagram. This is where my friend, Nancy, and I used to get our rainbow shave ice!

Daily hummingbird.

It was so hot again today that I never even saw da pīpī. I think they stayed hidden in the shady forest all day.

August 15th

Kalakoa lying on me with the fan blowing her fur. She and Keola were super hot, too.
Old barn along SE Hoffmeister Rd in Damascus. It’s so hot and smoky that I couldn’t even see the mountains.
Clawson Heating and Cooling (now A & E Heating and Cooling) to the rescue! Fortunately it was an easy fix, and fully covered by our warranty.

These sentences from the book I’m reading really spoke to me today.

Hōkū. Da daily pīpī.
Daily hummingbird on a very hot, smoky, day.

I love dem pīpī, popoki, and manu pitchas. That last paragraph of your book spoke to me too, especially since you shared your sunflower photo. That was my favorite Aunty’s favorite flower, so I think of her every time I see one. I’m so glad your A/C got fixed, but probably not as glad as you.

I was sure happy to get the a/c fixed… it was hard to sleep in that kind of heat. I love knowing about your auntie and sunflowers! I’ll have to post more photos of them for you.
