May 21st

Blooming irises outside my office. They’re so beautiful!!
Beautiful rhodies.
Late-blooming cactus.
Bird of Paradise blooming early!
Daily hummingbird and Stellar’s Jay flying by.
Nellie Moser Clematis… for some reason it doesn’t have much color this year. Still pretty though.
Rhodie!
Clematis and Pyracantha.

May 22nd

Daily hummingbird.
Crew from The Wall beginning to drill down the supporting da kine.
It was fascinating to watch them do this; and very, very loud! I was wearing ear protection when I took this video.
Their huge generator that powered the equipment.

AFK, you’d asked about this before. After my dear friend, Carol, died, her husband gave me this wonderful birdhouse from her little garden. I was so happy to have it!

Nolemana had to fix the crack, but I don’t care that it’s not perfect….neither am I. Wabi sabi, for sure, both of us.

Nolemana brought in some lilacs from our garden, and wikiwiki I took this photo before its pollinator flew off, which she did outside.

May 23rd

Daily hummingbird.
This guy is adding rock to two huge puka they drilled out to anchor the new concrete to the old wall.
Our driveway was full of equipment today! This rig brought up all the rock for the puka.
Nani purple flowers at my friend’s house where I went to get a haircut.
These are all the pipes that were installed yesterday.
It’s still blooming!
These are the two puka that were drilled out. See da pipes in the concrete? Now it has to cure for a couple of days.
The day ended with this nani sunset.

May 24th

Daily hummingbird through the screen.
More rock is getting delivered. The truck driver had to back up all the way up our driveway, which is steep and has a major curve at the steepest part. Our driveway is 1/10th of a mile and he did it just great with no damage anywhere. Genius driver for sure.
This is 10 tons of rock!
Da Gathering met at a friend’s house today. This is her front yard, filled with dogwood, azaleas, and rhododendrons.
I love the Western Tanagers!

May 25th

Let’s see some daily hummingbird action!

The concrete workers removed our deck railing so that they could fill in the new retaining wall with rock.
Food deliveries today. This is Chris Olson unloading his pickup; next, we’ll divide and sort it all.
This is what our driveway looks like in the spring; gotta get it mowed! But isn’t the green lovely?
The workers are pau for the day. I love watching equipment like this at work.

Look who loves the long grasses!

Tonight I went to my spinning guild for the first time since the start of the pandemic; it was great to be with my friends again. Tonight was the results of the fiber challenge, where each participant takes home some fiber and does something wonderful with it. My friend Dana made these with her fiber. I love the tapir and the nest on top of him!

You and I are both flower and bird people. So jealous of your Western Tanagers! Thanks for giving us a closer view of the birdhouse you got from Carol–so beautiful. That tapir is amazing. I marvel at people’s skills and imagination.

You and I are sistas in so many ways, aren’t we? I love that about our friendship. Also pōpoki peeps, too, right? Dana is an amazing artist. I have a wonderful spinning wheel bag that she made; I’ll have to post a photo of it. Mahalo nui, my friend.
