The Ultimate Variation On My Hawaiian Name

K’den. Remember this post from ‘way back when, where I wrote about how mainland peeps have so much pilikia [trouble] with my name? Back then I thought I’d heard it all, fool that I am. Mochahana? That’s nothing compared to what happened last week!!

This last name I got called had me laughing so hard it’s a good thing I wasn’t drinking coffee at the time, or my keyboard would’ve been toast! It took me several minutes before I could stop; tears were coursing down my face as I sat here in my office staring at the monitor.

Before I lost momentum, I zipped over to Alohaworld and posted the whole story on the message board, which only got me laughing all the more. It wasn’t long before I began to get responses to my post, and I bet the whole forum was shaking because everyone was laughing so hard.

The story?

I’d written to The Yarn Shop Which Shall Not Be Named because I couldn’t get their shopping cart to work properly, and I wanted to buy some knitting needles. I signed my name, Mokihana, and included my last name. I typed it clearly. M-O-K-I-H-A-N-A. Minus the hyphens.

A couple of days later, I got a very helpful email back from the store’s owner. Her email began, “Hi Marijuana!”

I am still laughing. My Alohaworld friends have taken to calling me “Pakalolo” and my friend Lurkah even designed a new avatar for me. Wanna see it?

Marihuana. Has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?
