Okay, I guess is the 7th weird thing about me. I love love the smell of new books! Last week the library emailed me to let me know a book I had reserved was in. I went to pick it up, and from the second it was in my hands, I knew I was the first one to borrow it. As soon as I could, i.e., in private so that no other library patrons could think to themselves, “What is that idiot doing to the book?”, I opened it up and took a whiff. Yep! Brand new! I felt like an addict, only instead of snorting something illegal, I was sniffing the fabulous new book fragrance. Once, twice, three times I did it, there in my car.
Everytime I open up the book I do the same thing. I practically inhale it! How weird is that!
I don’t even know why I like the smell so much. It’s not because I get to be the first one reading it, and it’s not because the book is free from other people’s stuff, whether it be coffee stains or ciggie odors.
It’s just that new books have a fragrance unlike anything else, and it calls to me. Do I have to figure out why? Nah. Just accept it, and be grateful everytime I get a library book lidat.
And if you happen to be somewhere and see me or someone else inhaling that fragrance… just think, “Ho, da weird!” Then go try it yourself, and maybe you’ll get hooked too!
Would that make me an enabler? I think so!
