Holoholo Kaʻa to Trout Lake 2023 – Chapter One

I totally forgot that I’d never written about our autumn advencha to Trout Lake, Washington! So I’m gonna do it now. I kept thinking I’d do it in the fall, and guess what? I never did. But fall photos are pretty, especially now in the middle of winter, and it’s been a long time since we’ve done a road trip together. So k’den. Imua!

After getting coffee for the road at Bow and Arrow Coffeehouse in Damascus, I pulled in to our Realtor’s office to take a photo of this gorgeous Japanese maple.

Then we headed back through Sunshine Valley and out to I-84.

Here we are, heading mauka.

The fall colors were beautiful along the Columbia River Gorge.

Here we’re just about to the turnoff for Multnomah Falls. It’s almost impossible to get a good photo of them from this side of the freeway.

More lovely colors!

Tunnel!

We’re waiting at the toll booth to cross over the Columbia River at Cascade Locks.

We continued mauka on the Washington State side of the Gorge.

We entered the cool town of Stevenson.

Still heading mauka, but we’ll be turning north in a bit.

Train!!

It’s the pusher, but still a locomotive, right?

We really picked a good weekend for this drive; the colors were brilliant!

The river looked really beautiful, too.

Wowzie! Another train!

The hills were alive with color!

You can see Oregon across the river.

Twin tunnels, one for vehicles and the other for trains.

Oops. We missed the turnoff! So we turned around here.

We stopped here to take a photo of the beauty.
Another tunnel!

We could see the Hood River Bridge from here.

Hood River Bridge

And another train.

Oops. We missed the turnoff so had to turn around and go back again.

And here’s our turnoff.

That’s the end of this chapter; next time we’ll head north and to places we’d never seen before!
