365 Days 2023, Numbah Six

January 26th

Very blurry daily hummingbird.
He was determined to keep moving! I never did get a still photo of him.
Food deliveries. We had choke boxes of that cotton candy. Wow.
More cleanup needed.

January 27th

Looks like the daily hummingbird is going to play this game again.
Well, this one isn’t too bad.
This doggo was wandering around as we left the house; we thought he was the neighbors’, and called them. It wasn’t theirs, and she took off before we could check for ID.
Ha! Gotcha!

Keola wasn’t feeling well today; he hid under the bed all day yesterday, which is definitely not like him. I didn’t want to have an emergency over the weekend, so took him to the vet; she was willing to check him out between her other patients. He had to have fluids and an anti-nausea shot; his bloodwork was perfect. I don’t know if he was just having an off day, but I didn’t want to take any chances. He came home tonight, starving, but still wasn’t feeling his normal self.

January 28th

I finished this chemo hat for my dear friend in Idaho; she just had her head shaved because her hair was falling out. The name of the pattern is “Sisters” for the Three Sisters central Oregon mountains. But I also like to think of it as our sister relationship.
Fox Sparrow at the birdbath on a cold day.
Daily hummingbird.

January 29th

Ballerina daily hummingbird through the screen.
19° this morning; frozen puddle.
Keola was back to normal and hollered till I lay down so that he could lie down ontop me.
Daily hummingbird again.
He was being much more cooperative about photos today.
Mama Flicker at the suet feeder.
It’s pretty impossible to get good photos of Bushtits at the feeder!

January 30th

I am so blessed!! One of my dearest friends sent me this awesome little bag; she got it for me when she was in Ireland!! I love it so much, and to think that she thought of me and got me the perfect gift while she was halfway across the world brings tears to my eyes.

But that wasn’t all!! Look what was inside the bag:

And this!! An Irish coin! What a treasure! Some of my ancestors were Irish, so all these gifts really mean a lot to me.

AFK, you are the real treasure in my life. Mahalo nui loa!
Another Keola photobomb.
Daily hummingbird at sunset through a very dirty sliding glass door.

January 31st

Robin at the birdbath; in really cold weather they love the heated water.
Mom and Dad Robin.

Let’s finish out the month with daily hummingbird acrobatics!

  1. AFK says:

Moki-chan, you made me all waimaka. I thought about you a lot in Ireland. But I never got good photos of old barns.

I’m glad Keola is doing better. I think it’s hilarious that you’re his human heating pad.

I always learn new things about birds from you. Maybe we have Fox Sparrows up here–I’ll have to do more studying.

    • Mokihana says:

Eh, no worries about the barns… I thought about you a lot while you were there. I always thought I’d love to go there myself.

Keola cries in the late mornings and early afternoons for me to lie down so I can be his heating pad. He’s a funny boy.

Now I’m wondering if what I saw was a Song Sparrow instead of a Fox one. I wish I could’ve gotten better photos. I love the song of the Song Sparrow.
