Mokipuaʻa

Last Tuesday afternoon I had a pre-op appointment with my surgeon and his assistant, who’ll be in the OR with him.  That made surgery seem really real. By the time we were pau with the appointment, traffic on I-205 would’ve been awful going home, so Nolemana and I decided to stay in Vancouver and have dinner at Patrick’s Hawaiian Cafe, my favorite local kine food restaurant. I figured that comfort food would help ease my way into surgery on Monday.

I was right, of course. As always, the grindz were wonderful. We decided to have the Maui Onion Rings to munch on, and ho da ʻono!!! Crisp and tasty and fantastic.

But I think I had the pre-op weirdness going on, because even though I hate having my photo taken, I asked Nolemana to take this one.

Then I noticed that one of the onion rings; oh my gosh…it reminded me of one ihu pua’a!  And I wen tell Nolemana, “Eh, I gotta do dis one, too!” He thought I was pupule. Considering I don’t like my photo taken, yeah? I musta been stoned from the doctor appointment, though I swear they gave me no meds. Maybe it was the adrenaline rushing through my veins. Maybe it was all the good kau kau and I felt like a pig. I hope I don’t regret this. Just remember…all my photos here stay copyrighted! No kakaroach um.
